UNDERSTANDING SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS and criminality
This foundational course provides a comprehensive review of the most current science on the nature of substance use disorders and possible relationships between the use of psychoactive substances and criminality.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the neurobiological and genetic mechanisms of the development of substance use disorders;
- Understand environmental and psychosocial risk factors for the development of substance use disorders;
- Understand common behavioral and psychosocial risk factors for initiation of drug use and development of substance use disorders;
- Understand the relationship between substance use disorders, delinquency and criminal life trajectory.
