UNDERSTANDING SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS and criminality

Course Description:

This foundational course provides a comprehensive review of the most current science on the nature of substance use disorders and possible relationships between the use of psychoactive substances and criminality. 

Course Outcomes:  

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the neurobiological and genetic mechanisms of the development of substance use disorders;
  • Understand environmental and psychosocial risk factors for the development of substance use disorders;
  • Understand common behavioral and psychosocial risk factors for initiation of drug use and development of substance use disorders;
  • Understand the relationship between substance use disorders, delinquency and criminal life trajectory.
